Second Year Begins

Having picked Pathway A (Fashion and Innovation), I am now ready, excited and motivated to start the second year - hoping to learn and pick up some different aspects of Fashion! I'm also a little apprehensive to start using some new software I haven't used so much before ... but I should be alright!

PPD

For the remainder of the weeks in PPD i was paired with Gemma Pound.
She showed me through her work and found it had a really interesting concept. She had looked at cricket uniforms and developed designs for women's sports wear.

Gemma kindly gave me a sample of the fabrics she used. along with prices and where she got them from.

Here are some images of Gemma's research pages. I think they are really interesting and when you look at the sketchbook together you can see how she has created garment shapes from this.
I helped Gemma with her swing tags. cutting out the stencils and spray painting the name onto the tag.
Gemma asked me along to a photo shoot on Tuesday to help me gain experience in a photography studio. Before the shoot she found some images of what kind of poses she liked. These images are pose that look sport like. the are interesting to look at and have more to them than what an ordinary model picture might have. The photo shoot went really well and only took an hour to shoot all of the garments. The outfits look good in the images because of the way the model posed.

I will upload these images soon.

PPD

On the 21st April we began our PPD brief. This brief enables us to get experience professional practices by helping the 3rd years with there final project.

On the first day the 3rd year i was assigned to wasn't college which meant i had to be paired with a different 3 rd year. This was Cheryl Cox. She talked me through her work and gave me a pack which included some of the postcards and swing tickets she is using in her final project. Cheryl was the only 3rd year that has decided to design and make underwear. She took pathway A.

I was given tasks that would help in proceeding and move forward with her current project. This involved me going into town to get some silk material, hook bra fastenings and ribbon.
When i got back into college i ironed a dressing gown that Cheryl has made.

On the second week i was paird with the original 3rd year. This is Sarah. She showed me through her work again and then sent me into town to get some elastic for her dress she was making.

Creative approaches to fashion

I got the results of the creative approaches to fashion grade on Friday. I was hoping for a better grade but i think i already knew before receiving feed back that my research pages would let me down. I find it difficult working on A3 sheets i feel like i cant make anything flow. Its something which i know i need to improve because i know i can do it if i give it my all. I did how ever find the workshops for this project useful to me as i learned knew ways or drawing and using different media. Maybe i should try using some of these techniques for my research pages in the future. It would defiantly make the pages look more interesting and might even inspire me more.

I felt like it took forever to tie the thread to make the fabric gather on my final piece. Personally i think the effect is nice but do think i could of experimented with how i did it a little more.
